In our increasingly interconnected world, good translations are increasingly important—which makes it all the more disappointing that the academic world has largely abandoned translation, seeing it as uncreative work that produces no new knowledge. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I translate from Chinese to English. My largest project so far was the “overviews (gaikuang 概況)” for Brill’s online “Compilation of Chinese Medicine Periodicals Online, 1897-1952,” totaling some 43,000 words in English translation was recently published as a book by Brill.. You can view the online version here. I also translate Chinese literature into English, including poetry and prose. Ancient Exchanges will be publishing my translation of two Classical Chinese poems in their Spring 2021 issue. You can read a sample of my literary translation here.
